Rome Shopping: Silly Closet Room
A boutique by two best friends who love fashion and believe that getting dressed is an act of self care
Alessandra Corsi and Silvia De Scisciolo love fashion in a contagious, non-pretentious way that reminds me of my most stylish girlfriends.
It’s no surprise the founders were best friends first.
The two met at a fundraiser while accompanying their husbands and became besties pretty quickly. After working in sales for years, they both found themselves without a job. It took some prodding, but a vendor friend finally convinced the two to open their own boutique.
Silly Closet Room is partially inspired by Silvia’s nickname—Silly. “The rest…” says Alessandra, “is just a super long story.”
They opened their doors in December of 2018 on Via della Scrofa in the heart of the centro storico, old city center.
Silly Closet Room was born out of love for fashion.
According to Alessandra, “Clothes should do more than just cover you up. They should enhance everything about you. Your everyday style can be simple, yet thoughtful, whether you’re at work or at play.”
The women share an ethos of fair pricing and quality.
You can grab a pair of design socks or stockings for around €22, while separates and dresses rarely surpass €200. Coats and hand-knit sweater will run you a bit more.
“We select our collections carefully, with a nod to natural fibers and made-in-Italy craftsmanship that respects the time and skill required to do great work,” says Alessandra, including the jewelry.
Even the shoes are handmade, produced in the Marche region.
I discovered the store while shopping for something colorful for a photo shoot. A bold striped maxi dress in the window lured me in and the rest is history.
The space feels like a fantasy closet—with satin-upholstered chairs and bejeweled chandeliers. Jewelry spills from glass cases, and shelves are styled for outfit inspiration.
Alessandra likens it to a living room. “It’s a welcoming place where you can feel at home, take your time, and chat with other women, exchange advice, smiles, and a sense of sisterhood.”
“For us, fashion is also about relationships, listening, and sharing,” she says.
The last amazing piece I found was a one-shoulder, sleeveless gown with a built-in bodysuit. The fewer articles of clothing on my body, the better. I’m lazy and should probably plan for retirement on a nudist colony.
Greek goddess vibes, wrinkle-free fabric with red and gold accents on pale pink. Thr gown features a subtle (or stunning) thigh-high slit.
Alessandra and Silvia are helpful without ever pushing.
They’re quick to provide accessories—shoes, belts, bags—just to see how they look. No upsells here…though you’ll likely be tempted.
Their Instagram is filled with videos of them walking the rustic runway that is Rome’s old city or just playing in the store. They exude the sort of joy that’s impossible to fake.
When I mentioned it they confirmed. “We’re on our own when it comes to social media, unfortunately. Whenever the mood strikes, we post! Nothing is planned.”
Sales are on until the end of February.
These two fashionistas will have you looking and feeling your best.
“Our goal is to ensure that every woman leaves the store satisfied, with a complete total look, designed to simplify her mornings and make her feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful. Because dressing is also an act of self-care.”
